Coordinate Converter — Convert GPS Coordinates
The Coordinate Converter is a free tool for converting GPS coordinates between Decimal Degrees (DD) and Degrees-Minutes-Seconds (DMS) formats. It includes bulk conversion with CSV export and direct Google Maps links for any coordinate pair.
All calculations run entirely in your browser. No data is sent to any server.
Supported Formats
- Decimal Degrees (DD) — The most common format in digital systems. Example: 40.712800, -74.006000. Used by GPS devices, Google Maps, GIS software, and programming APIs.
- Degrees Minutes Seconds (DMS) — The traditional navigation format. Example: 40° 42' 46.08" N, 74° 0' 21.60" W. Used on nautical charts, topographic maps, and aviation.
Conversion Formula
DD = Degrees + (Minutes / 60) + (Seconds / 3600). Direction (N/S, E/W) determines the sign: North and East are positive, South and West are negative.
Features
- Bidirectional — Convert DD → DMS or DMS → DD.
- Bulk Mode — Paste multiple coordinates, convert all at once.
- CSV Export — Download bulk results as a CSV file.
- Google Maps — Open any coordinate in Google Maps.
- Real-Time — Instant conversion with high precision (6 decimal places).
Use Cases
- Geocaching — Convert coordinates between GPS and paper maps.
- Surveying — Translate between field notes (DMS) and GIS software (DD).
- Aviation — Convert between aviation charts (DMS) and flight planning software (DD).
- Research — Standardize coordinate formats for data analysis.
